International Technology Diffusion and Growth in the Manufacturing Sector of Developing Economies

Evaluate channels which foreign technology diffuses to manufacturing sector of selected developing economies. We find foreign R&D typically has biggest positive impact on domestic productivity and value added growth. Imports of technology goods and foreign direct investment also play a positive role but effect is of smaller magnitude and not always significant.

Price Risk in the NYMEX Energy Complex:   an Extreme Value Approach

The parameters characterizing the tail behavior of probability distributions are estimated. These are used to construct risk statistics for unconditional distributions of daily logarithmic price changes of the NYMEX energy complex.

Predatory Pricing and Unfair Sales Acts

Examines the similarities between "predatory pricing" and pricing behavior that various state laws prohibit under their "unfair sales acts."  After describing the nature of the latter statutes and the extent to which these laws still exist across the United States, it uses economics to analyze them and their effects on consumer welfare.
