The Office of Proposal Development in the Office of the Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer provides assistance to OSU faculty and administrators developing external grant proposals, including those involving multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional research teams.
A Proposal Development Specialist is available to provide a wide range of pre-award services for investigators in any college or academic unit of OSU.
- Review, revise, edit, and format proposals for clarity, organization, and readability and to ensure compliance with solicitation requirements.
- Coordinate proposal development meetings and help establish and monitor timelines (internal and external) for the proposal development process.
- Identify and evaluate potential funding opportunities.
- Identify and facilitate collaboration with potential partners for multidisciplinary projects, and coordinate multidisciplinary, multi-institutional proposals.
To facilitate proposal assistance, investigators should be prepared to provide:
• Adequate lead time to conduct a careful review of the proposal
• Access to the electronic program announcement or RFP
• Electronic drafts of proposal sections to be edited (MS Word preferred)
• Panel review notes from previous submissions (as appropriate)
Investigators should schedule a proposal review well in advance of final submission dates. Once a proposal development timeline has been established and materials have been provided, the Proposal Development Specialist will electronically edit drafts, as well as comment and make suggestions regarding style, format, strategy, and organization.

Fees & Billing
Scheduled assistance by the proposal specialist will be billed out to investigators at $25 per hour (minimum half hour increments) via monthly campus vendor invoices . These costs can be charged to F&A, departmental, or college accounts (not grant accounts.) Informal queries and/or requests for basic information are not considered scheduled assistance and will not be charged .
New Faculty Incentive
An important priority is to assist new faculty at OSU to successfully compete for research funding; therefore, the Vice President for Research & Technology Transfer provides up to 8 hours gratis proposal assistance to new faculty any time within 24 months after hire.
